A Foot In Print

It curves on both sides and splits in the middle,

the arch reaches down, but only a little.

The front is pushed deeper

and the back, much steeper

into dirt cool and brown.

This print

is imprinted

two—side by side—

and four; two pairs of two.

With merciless ease

imprinted as these:

Deep and then shallow—Deep and then shallow

Deep and then shallow—Deep and then shallow

Follow them—there!

Follow with care,

Follow to see whose feet put them there.
