Dear New Day

This morning is gray

and somewhat opaque.

I cannot afford

such natural distractions,

for my planner is full

of roadside attractions.

I have places to be

and people to see,

and things to achieve

in the spaces between.

Gray is much better

for evenings or ill-weather,

when nothing’s to be done

for work or for fun.

I hope it’s not rude

to ask this of you.

I just cannot go on

when the color’s all gone.

So please,

(I’m being polite, as you see)

flick off this gray

(this do with haste)

and put on some color

(my emotions to alter)!
