Soundless

Quiet

just a moment

be silent

Listen

close your eyes

breathe in

Don’t think

don’t think at all.

Just sink

just sink and fall.

Fall into silent rest

sink into emptiness

Be silent.

Do you see it?

It’s a still gray

where colors explode

Do you feel it?

A soft sway

where wind was blown

Do you hear it?

It’s silence,

and it’s lonely.

It’s peace,

and it’s homely.

See it, feel it, hear it;

because one day you’ll wish you were near it.

When colors clash,

your flesh attacked,

and your ears are split by violent cracks

You’ll want it.

You’ll need it.

So be silent.

The idea behind this poem is something that I personally struggle with a lot. I have a hard time just quieting my mind for even a little bit. It feels like there's always something vying for my attention, or something that I need to focus on. Most of the time, things are not nearly so serious that I can't afford twenty minutes of silence. But even then, when I set aside time to be quiet, it's hard to really engage in the silence.

If I can, however, I notice a huge difference. I get a bit of relief from whatever's at the forefront of my worries and am able to come back rejuvenated. If you find yourself constantly stressed and worrying day and night, maybe take some time to just not think about anything. It can be really restful.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend and mother's day!
